About Me

My name is James Cook, but I prefer to be called Jamie so as to avoid the obvious comparisons that arise when you share a name with the person who is credited with discovering Australia. That is me over there on the left, I’m a 27 year old PhD student from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I’m currently attempting to complete waiting to get back reviews of my PhD dissertation at the Queensland University of Technology in the field of “3D Face Recognition”, this is my fourth year of the PhD and before that I did my Bachelor of I.T. and Electronic Engineering here at QUT. If you are interested in my work, a list of my publications is available for your perusal.
My main interests are technology related, I love all manner of gadgets and such. I’m a passable amateur photographer and maintain a collection of photographs over at flickr. I’m a big fan of Linux and open source software - this entire site is running from my GentooMythdora linux box running Apache, PHP and SQL. It’s not super computer by any stretch of the imagination but it does also manage a passable attempt at being a media box aswell, we can play music and watch dvds through it.
